Conservation

Museum standard conservation for objects and collections covering a broad range of materials, including works of art and archival material.

Attaining the highest possible standards in all aspects of conservation, including examination, treatment, documentation, research and advising on preventative conservation.

We can provide conservation management planning, condition assessment surveys of collections and training in preventative and remedial conservation.

We are able to work on material both in situ and in our studios.

We are both fully accredited ICON conservators with over thirty years of experience.

ICON (Institute of Conservation) is the representative body for professional conservators and restorers working in the UK.

Conservation Register provides information on professionally accredited conservators and restorers working in the UK and Ireland.

The Conservators

Cath & Kate have been working in the conservation and museum sector since the early 1990s. They both specialise in conservation assessments and treatments, preventive conservation and care of collections

They have worked together on a range of collections, for example MonLife Heritage (Nelson Museum and Chepstow Museum), Conwy Museum Service, Ebbw Vale Steelworks Museum, Scott House Museum, National Trust Tredegar House and Dinefwr. Consignments carried out include condition assessment surveys and audits encompassing a wide remit of objects. These assessments frequently result in grant awards for preventative and interventive conservation programmes. In recent years, either together or separately, they have advised at venues undertaking loan and exhibition condition assessments, for example Nottingham Contemporary and National Museum Cardiff. They also continue to carry out treatments from their respective conservation studios in Brecon and Aberystwyth.
